@Epimetheus, I think you may have misinterpreted percentages from the article at Heute www.heute.at/s/ohne-deutsch-in-der-1-klasse-fast-70-prozent-araber-120084461

45% of new first-year primary school children in Vienna do not adequately speak German to follow lessons (this group comprises ~20,000 kids)

*Of those*, almost 70% speak Arabic as their fist language (~70% of 45% is ~30%)

i.e ~30% of new *first graders* speak Arabic as their first language

Hi Witzbold, thanks for spotting this--when I was putting together the header, I wasn't thinking too clearly: I've now fixed this.

By way of an explanation, I typically do the header last, hence I apparently overlooked the crucial distinction you pointed out (which I've reproduced correctly in the translated article by Heute…silly me).

Once more, thanks for spotting this and pointing it out!
