Virtually all swedes above age 45-50 live in a delusion where they react, reason and analyse any political issue, domestic as well as international, as if it was still the 1970s.
Analogous to how the french thought about the Maginot line before May 10 1940.

It's not 'just them'. It's all of Western nations and peoples.
My 2 cents on this one:
It's easier to believe a lie or two (or more) if the reality one faces is: betrayal.
It's easier to condemn those who speak the truth ('disinformation', in today's parlance) than to listen, assess the veracity, and act upon one's considerations.
Peter Pan syndrome, writ large. It's one of the many reasons why democracy doesn't work (anymore, if it ever really did): we believe in it so hard because it's already a thing of the past. Any kind of reckoning would indicate a drastic shift, and many, if not most, are gullible, complacent, and, yes, too comfortable to move.
I mean, as an aside, look at our ancestors as little as 125 years ago: working people, after 10+ hours of typically hard, physical labour, went to the union locales to read up on current events, cross-relate it to Marx' writings, and have a debate. Today, most people are hesitant to read more than the subheader of a legacy media news posting.
It is easier to uphold the Potemkin-village than to acknowledge reality.
That is also why swedish politicians, celebrities and such lash out against Hungary and Poland and now also El Salvador.
El Salvador today celebrated 64 days without a murder. Sweden has had 7 murders so far this year if we only count shootings. Barring Ukraine, this is the most dangerous country in Europe.

Why do you think they are still trapped in the past?

Thus passes the glory of the world
Because this used to be a great nation.

Everyone knows why.
