Reuters (of all places) reports on German gas importers paying in Roubles--and then selling the gas to Poland, which will drive inflation there, leaving the gov't only one offramp: foreign adventurism
Recently elected Bulgarian government is led by US-controlled puppets that represent US interests more than anything else. This is why there are protests in the country almost on a daily basis. Elections are coming, that is for sure. Hope it is not going to be too late...
Thanks to the EU and Greenspan/Friedman economics of the neoliberal variety, it's the same with electricity.
Vattenfall (the old state owned power company of Sweden) sells nuclear and hydro electricity to where prices are higher than in Sweden, and buys electricity from polish brown coal plants. Which they then sell to the swddish public for the price they would have charged for the hydro/nuclear power, pocketing the change and the "environmental credits".
Meanwhile, power prices are the highest ever in Sweden, meaning instead of households investing, buying or paying off debt a greater and greater percentage of their incomes goes to the power companies. And guess what that does to the economy - soon we might be in a downward spin not even Max Immelmann could get out of.
It's an old classic, that when the magazines are full they have to raise prices due to the power becoming cheaper, so that they don't earn less per unit and that when the magazines are at low level they have to raise prices becuase of that. Neo-liberal economics with a nice randian bent: a racket, pure and simple.
Those like me who remember when Vattenfall was fully state-owned and Sweden was not a part of the European "electricity market", back when power production was a national interest and vital military and civil infrastructure, knows full well that the power was cheaper back then, due to the price being set as to cover the original investment plus inflation plus funding means to renovations, repairs and further development.
When I moved to my first own apartment, my power bill 1/20th or less of my monthly income. Now, it's 1/10th as a yearly average. Yay markets! They solve everything!
By the by, Norway frequently use the same trick, selling norwegian hydro-power to Sweden and/or buying finnish nuclear power and so on. It's a racket an nothing but a racket!
But I don't see the pearl from Lavrov that I find it WONDERFUL! Lovely made!

I saw that remark, too. You'v got to give it to him, he's got style (ahem)
On a more reasonable note, problem is that these nuances are utterly incomprehensible to virtually all Western 'politicians' and media people: they don't want to see them, and even if they accidentally stumbled upon them, it won't pay for them as the 'rules' in the West appear to be quite different from, say, reality.
Or in Naples they use a little ball hidden in one of 3 upside down glasses then they move them fast and you've to bet in which is... usually in the streets or in the metro...
Talk about 'cause' (NATO's war vs. Russia) and 'effect' (NATO shooting itself in the foot)…
I thought about that ruse, too, but then again: it doesn't appear 'fair' as, while 'the West' plays that 'game' you mentioned, Mr. Putin plays four-dimensional chess.
I'm advising all my friends to stay away from DC. Either they will be jailed without trial or there might be something more explosive occurring. And its worse than a swamp with increasing humidity its become a cesspool of gases. Europeans actually living in Europe would be wise to distance themselves too... Oh well, where's the difference to, say, all other 'Western' gov'ts?
What a cluster***.
And then some. This won't end well, either way.

What you write of Vattenfall, my friend, reeks a lot like the stuff we endure here in Norway (which 'happens' for the same reasons).
Also, perhaps incidentally, last week, somewhat delayed thawing and melting was blamed for sky-high electricity prices.
I wonder what will be given as 'reason' next week…

I know, my friend, and 'they' even sold the new power connection to Germany as something that will 'integrate markets' and 'hence lower prices'.
As the opposite happened, I won't hold my breath…

Nice! We call it the game of the 3 cards... XD
