The last one, the one with the stone bridge may be in Kamakura. There is to this day an ancient stone bridge that looks like this that crosses a lotus pond. However, I would be surprised if this is or was the only such bridge. Will check my photos from Kamakura to see if they look the same.

Nice.

Having never been to Japan, all I can do is marvel at the sights.

I am thinking of posting your post cards pics alongside of modern shots of the same that I have taken; either on my substack or on a new one (for me) that I am sharing with a friend here on tourist destinations. Would that be alright with you?

Sure thing, please just reference the source and, if possible, note that this is the “Erich Sonntag Postcard Collection”, or ESPC.

Oh, and let me see how this works out; I’ve got many more such cards than I post here, if you’d like them, email me.

Thanks. Might take a little while as I have other things on my plate and searching through my pics takes a while.

The first may be Myojindake or Oze Yukake. Another possibility is Kaikomagatake. All three of these have three peaks and resemble the mountain in this painting.

The second is in Nikko Toshogu, the mausoleum for the first Tokugawa Shogun, Ieyasu.

The third is the Great Buddha of Kamakura.

The fourth is Mt. Fuji as seen from Misaka. I do not know where Misaka is.

I checked with my pics from Kamakura. The current stone bridge has different hand rails and some other differences but the overall style and construction are the same. Additionally, I was able to track down some vintage photos and it looks to be the same bridge as in the post card you posted. I think it is the arched stone bridge of Kamakura Tsurigaoka Hachimangu shrine in Kamakura. Not far from the Great Buddha in the other post card, through that is in a temple.

Hi Katherine,

you might wish to search these pages here for 'postcards'.

I have my late grandfather's postcard collection at my office, hence my weekend postings are 'random' examples of nice old postcards. Find out more here:
