My favorite part is your conclusion:

It might make for a few decades of weirdness, but in the end, nature will sort this out: those who reproduce will continue their lineage, those who won’t, don’t.

Oh, well, that's how these things end.

Imagine you have kids; how far away from these people would you want to keep them?

These people won't have kids of their own (thankfully, I'm almost hastening to add). This all has a kind of 'natural' end date.

Births in Norway, difference of cumulative monthly deaths to 2017-2021 median:

The downward trend is clearly visible from 2017 to 2020. Like quite a few other countries, Norway had a mini-boom in 2021 (orange). And then came 2022 (black) - difficult to say if this is a return to the previous trend, or caused by something else.

I know; also, 'Covid' appears to have erased whatever gains in life expectancy and (anti-) mortality since about 15-20 years ago, as Norway--and other places--are now experiencing mortality rates not seen since 2000/01.

Waxing pedantic here, but a vasectomy is not a procedure that a (CIS) woman can have. The equivalent (much more invasive) procedure for biological females is a tubal ligation.

I thought that odd, too, but then again, I didn't find the right word in time. Thanks for bringing this up; the original article uses 'sterilisation'.

EDIT: I've updated the above piece to reflect this. Thanks, again, for pointing this out.

With first hand experience from Finnmark, this has no solution. Too little too late. Young people are moving away never to return.

Sadly, I fear you're right.

Why would they, as most 'support systems' (jobs, social places, etc.) will soon move away, too, if they haven't already. I've been observing the same trend in outlying areas of Austria and Germany for some time now, and nothing will be done until politicians will, one day, declare that certain services will be moved.

Same shit, different smell, I suppose.

It may be easier to re-allocate resources in smaller places (e.g., Switzerland), but in large countries with few inhabitants, such as Norway, nothing can be done.
