A medical ethics "expert" shilling for the experimental gene jabs... well, well, well. Maybe she could have tea with Mrs. Fauci sometime, if she hasn't already. Faustian bargains, it's a thing. Doesn't end well.
Well, she's got an MD, but she's not really worked (much) as a clinician, hence, she's about as closely connected to research (other than the ™ version thereof) than, say, anyone who once got an MBA and worked in the private sector for decades is connected to whatever is going on in academia. Same applies to journos™.
That bargain you mention, this happens well before people graduate in my opinion: do whatever to get by, have a comfy life, and don't raise a fuss--that's the way to do it.
The bargain— not everyone realizes that it's a supposed Faustian bargain at the time, and then when they figure it out, not everyone sticks to that bargain. Cases in point: yourself and myself. There is no safety in "safety" anyway. Look at all the people who took comfy jobs with pensions because they were comfy jobs with pensions, and then found out in 2021 that they had to take an experimental gene jab to keep them. That sorta totally sucked, eh. And the jabs actually killed or seriously injured some of them.
I mostly agree with what you say here. Just saying, there are some exceptions and I appreciate them. A few surprised me. Most people surprised me the other way around— in that they closed their eyes and went hand-in-hand with Mephistopheles like kids to a candy store.
And about being anywhere near any understanding of actual scientific research (as opposed to "science" bought & paid for by Big Pharma)— it's been absurdly horrible how ignorant most people turn out to be— and that includes those holding advanced degrees in public health and your average doctor, too. As I often say, covid times have been a revelation.
Well, I firmly believe it takes a backbone to lead a good life; most academics appear to lack any kind of conviction, hence it's hardly surprising (also applies to most journos™ and politicos™). There's always exceptions here and there, and, yes, free will and human agency play a huge role--in all, though, our form of 'inverted totalitarianism' (Sheldon Wolin) is apparently more successful than the more openly nightmarish dystopias of yesteryear (plus North Korea).
Hehehe, I picked the example knowing full well how different the Swedish part of the The Thirty Yers War is viewed in other nations; here, Gutav and Axel are the two men who laid the foundation for not just modern Swedern, but for a modernisation of military and bureaucracy and all the attendant parts of society, from corrupt venal nobility to meritocratic egalitarianism.
Both versions, "die dumme Scweden" and the Landsfader are correct.
Having read my fair share of Swedish history about the stormaktstid, I'm aware of the roles of Gustavus Adolphus and Axel Oxenstierna. Inside baseball me points to other researchers (mediaevalists mainly) who posit that the rise to greatness and egalitarianism commenced earlier…
Since this is a he said vs. she said 'argument', I'm setting it aside; point being, I doubt anyone will do Europeans a favour and wipe the floor with these politicos™, if only because they are useful idiots (for the US empire) and/or there's no need to stop one's enemies making mistake after mistake (as seen from Russia).
The researchers claiming that the egalitarian streaks in Swedish culture and nobility are older are correct - what Gustav Adolf did was bring the old culture to the fore, after a couple of centuries of the Realm being influenced by the ideas from the continent.
Well, (we) professors are mostly paid by the state, hence our™ stance. Nothing has changed since the days of humanists with inky fingers, paid for by the princes (states).
I think this goes beyond professional blinders. Ethicists, particularly oven Bio-Ethicist variety, seem to be animated by an deep seated hatred of humanity itself. Look at Fauci‘s wife or, my favourite, Ezekiel Emanuel. I have set an alert to send him his obituary on September 6th 2032.
"...the real scandal is: Why did anyone ever listen to this guy?"
-because Bill and Melinda Gates were giving millions to the Imperial College of London imo to create the false narrative of a pandemic.
Bingo.
That plus the fact that our 'leaders' are cut from very shitty cloth, i.e., they should not have been in these positions in the first place.

I fear we need a new Gustavus Adolphus, and a new Axel Oxenstierna, to get out of this mess.
Unsure if the metaphor is the best way to put it; I'm also unsure if Russia will do us this favour this time around.

University ethics = apologetica for evil. Every. Single. Time.

Change my mind.

I agree, esp. as 'ethics' detached from morality is--fake.
