„… esoteric highbrows who write for the tiny audience of the Atlantic Monthly…“

I vaguely remember that time.

Good times, eh? At least very different and, I shall add, perhaps a tad less complex than the present (for better or worse)...

What a treat - have to read slowly and carefully, as with most older texts, since the language is magnitudes better than what mainstream academia today can manage.

Just recovering from debating with a Swedish commenter on another 'Stack: apparently, the definition of fascism is now "someone TV and tabloids say we shouldn't like" plus "wants a smaller state".

What a time to be alive - people for real argue that "a smaller state" is emblematic and core to the definition of fascism. But since Swedish media and their experts for years argued that ISIL wasn't "real moslems", I shouldn't be surprised.

Of course it's a more difficult read, and the true absurdity is that mainstream media news was also written in a similar manner: I think nowhere else, in terms of mass culture, is the decay and degeneracy of western civilisation more evident.

As to the f-word: well, that was obvious, isn't it? (It's the same on social media in German, if it's any consolation.)

As to IS/Daesh being 'real' or not, I submit, is in the eye of the beholder…
