Yesterday, my daughter and I took the (public) bus and she asked me: "why don't you wear a mask?"--My answer: "Because it’s not necessary, my dear. Would you rather I’d wore a mask?--"No." (smiles)
ugh this breaks my heart. I have lots of conversations with my 3 year old about masks. Why are they wearing masks? Do they work? Are you sick? Do you need a mask? I really wish I didn't have to
Oh my, I'm so sorry to hear this. This breaks my heart.
We're a proud maskfree household, and none of us will don a face diaper if we're not "coerced" into doing so. (My spouse repeatedly tells me not to point out inconsistencies to other people, not because we're wrong but because she's afraid that at some point "they" will come for "us", and about this I'm afraid she may be right--see Australia.)
That said, here's what works, sort of, for us (we also have a 7yo): make as little fuss about this entire absurdity as possible; answer questions like "why is this place close?" or "why can't we go there?" correctly, but age-appropriately. If asked about "testing", only do the bare minimum (esp. with the 7yo), and mainly because she may be looked at oddly in school if she told them *what* their parents think about this.
As I related above, if asked about face diapers, tell them it's not necessary. I once had to resort to a secondary "but, why?" by our 4yo, and here's what I said: "you know, the Coronavirus is soooooooooo small, it can move to your mouth and nose anyways--because no mask fits perfectly."
If desired, I'll write a piece about "parenting" experiences in times of "Covid".
Good for you. And good for your daughter too. I would like to go to Austria on the day of these protests. Assuming they are national could you point me towards a list of planned demonstrations. I would like to attend one
I "wish" I could join you: I don't live in Austria, but if you'd make some time--and: bring your buddies--do go for it. (I'll have a bigger update on the situation later today, first I'd have to update you on the Norwegian "numbers".)
Keep in mind that I (personally) object to any number of things on the Freedom Party's platform, but I would recommend going to the protests they organise: the Freedom Party is the only political faction in parliament that opposes these fascist absurdities, and it's also the only group whose reach is wide enough to potentially make a difference.

Hi Ryk,
here's the Freedom Party's "protest calendar" (which will be updated, they write):

What a good daddy. And what a good daughter. I have hope for the future of humanity 😸
I'm very flattered, thank you for your compliment.
All I can say is: we're trying, and I'm sure parents all over the world are trying their best, too.
