I wonder which alternative media outlet you are speaking of.

That would be the Nachdenkseiten, as mentioned somewhere in my introductory note.

Their answer was particularly embarrasing, as 're-united' Germany should have had a constitutional convention in the early 1990s, but the editors of the Nachdenkseiten claimed since that demand is voiced mainly by the right-wing Reichsbürger faction, my op-ed on Austria would be 'unneccsarily incendiary' at this time.

I confess that I expected 'more' of them, esp. since the Nachdenkseiten typically chastise 'legacy' media (correctly, I'd add) for their lack of historical awareness and context.

If you ask me, it is not radical enough. Party politics appear when parties appear. The solution is to eliminate parties.

But you are lucky, since have another option available. Find the current head of the Habsburg house, give him a crown and the keys of the place.

Hi again,

I'm in full agreement on the 'party politics' angle, and I'd love to see the elimination of them, but I also understand this isn't going to happen. Ever. (And, if my first 1.5 years in Scandinavia are any guide, there's plenty of crazies and loonies here, too, albeit social cohesion is higher than elsewhere I've lived.)

The monarchy angle is another case in point: my spouse typically brings this up, but in a way that's quite revealing, I think: 'even [kings and queens] wouldn't be worse' is her typical moniker, and I happen to agree.

What, then, is to be done?

My spouse likes to indicate: nothing will change until an eruption of violence, an impression I happen to agree with. If I'd have to bet on any scenario, it's a couple of police reacting to 'provocations' from among protesters, causing the gov't to stumble (again) and fall, which will bring in a form of 'technocratic care-taker gov't' in the mould of what typically happens in Italy, i.e., some 'notable' of yesteryear will head a 'unity gov't' (here's looking at you, Italian PMs Ciampi, Dini, Monti, Conte, and Draghi) that will double down on everything.

I may post some more 'history matters' over the holidays to indicate potential avenues.

Hi Manu Rus,

this is awesome, thanks a lot. Your thoughts also warrant a specific reply, which I'll compose before the holidays.

By the way, I appreciate the candour. My spouse called these notions 'idealistic'; my co-workers labelled them any name in the book between 'too rational' and 'cynical'.

I'm also in agreement that even if it would be published, nothing will change, hence, as you correctly point out, 'legacy' media shrugs these sentiments off. I have this sinking feeling somewhere, though, that 'even if' our political systems would be more responsive, I'm unsure if it would be 'enough'.

You know, Eric Hobsbawm (not that I share his ideological predisposition), in The Age of Extremes, eloquently wrote about the pre-WW2 period and characterised them as 'the temple of democracy' that 'was abandoned'. I wager that in our moment, these structures have been deliberately dismantled for decades now (EU membership and other supra-national institutions do that), with 'Covid-19' now allowing gov'ts all over the world to cordon off 'the temple of democracy' in the expectation that the people would simply stop caring. I fear that we're very close to that point.

"A New Republic is Needed" - have you asked the French Frogs? Have many did they have? We are merely looking at the symptoms, not their roots.

All human affairs are temporary. All democratic-republical structures were, are, and will be. That doesn't mean we shouldn't strive for such governance.

What, pray tell, dear Barry, are the roots here?

Further to my previous comment.

The NSW Health Minister refused to grant certain exemptions to the HCWs because over 90% VOLUNTARILY took their jabs! Who should we point the finger at, the Minister, or those volunteers? Likewise with the community in general, as I've mentioned a few times. Initially they were sceptical that they could even get 70%. Some of them expressed that reservation! When they saw people lapped them up, they increased the rate to 90%, or 95%.

The roots are 'us'!

Why do you think they deceived, manipulated and divided us for if we were powerless?

What do you think "democracy" is?

Did they force anyone to vote for the Cuban-Chanadian recently? And other covid-infected elections?

Did they force the retirees and wealthy to line up for their jabs? Did they force some wealthy people to fly overseas to jump the queue? Those financially secured pros? Those soccer players? One respected Australian music promoter Gudinksy (sic) got whacked for it - the media was silent on the cause of his death earlier in the year.

Did "they" force people to ignore the plights of the unvaxed, especially in those oppressive countries? When I rang my State rep to seek assistance over a dental clinic imposing vax paper or neg test as conditions of entry, the person who took my call lied to me - I caught her out during our chat. She was supportive of that measure; she did not even pretend to show one molecule of care for me. Likewise with other govt authorities I spoke to - not one word of sympathy. Did anyone force them to ignore my plight?

Did they force people to snitch on others over masking, etc?

Did "they" force people to commit violent crimes and other atrocious activities?

Wise and gentle people will have wise and gentle rulers.

Selfish and tyrannical people will have their likes as rulers.

If people don't value freedom and fundamental basic human values, they won't have rulers who have possess them.

Look at A-stan!

What do you notice, right now, about those people who live under semi or full autocratic rules?

I saw a program where they found that young elephants without the guiding influence of older males were wreaking havoc. Once they introduced some wise old male elephants into the herd, the rampage stopped. One of the major problems with young male negros in USA is a lack of the father figure. Studies and some sensible blacks have stated that obvious fact repeatedly. Even some who grew up to be successful also noted their lack of guiding influences of their dads - and they were really committed to ensure their children didn't experience what they did.

Since they have total control of all relevant countries, do you think any "revolution" will be successful? How long have the French and Italians being protesting? We cannot have a "revolution" without money. And who controls money? Did you think those towel head talibs kicked yankee arses by themselves? Are you serious? Do you think those who financed and supported those towel heads did that for charity?

The geopolitical naivity of many of "us" is astonishing to me. Many of whom don't even know the basic rules of the game. For example, they cry and moan about fakebook and bird and yet they are still on there - or begged to be on there - and referenced their links to their other SM sites. They posted articles knowing that they would be ex-communicated for them. When that happened, they cried! How pathetic! One guy moaned about the words "they" use. I suggested he should alternatives and mock their words. He said he mocks them by putting them in inverted commas. Do you see my point now?

Another thing: they get excited about the most flimsiest of possibilities. When I demurred, I was rebuked and told to be positive! I remember they got so hot and bothered when Trump signed that social media EO. They did not see, as I pointed out at that time, that the dems and demedia did not attack that EO. Well, what happened since then?

I say again, we collectively are responsible for our experiences.

The solutions always start with us first!
