I have to say that this is not just a European phenomenon. I keep in touch with a group of my college classmates. Recently those that are fans of the busted AGW hypothesis are complaining about the extreme heat. But the heat that they are complaining about is a full 10 - 20 degrees F cooler than what we all saw when we were playing sports in our 20s. One of them that I regularly correspond with will frequently send me messages about how X location has just had the highest temperature on record. I look it up and find out (1) it’s not the record, (2) it’s not even particularly hot.

I think it shows the power of propaganda/the decay of independent thinking.

Judging from my circles, it's worse (naturally) among the 'more educated' folk.

Air temperatures are measured in shade at 2m above ground. When propaganda shares satellite ground temperature data as air temps we get an instant vision of hell. Rinse and repeat. Add some red colors instead of the usually used green and you can easily bend the perception of reality. Brainwashing works exceedingly well on people who are utterly unaware of their brainwashing.

Exactly--it's quite easy to see through, yet I know so many people who fall for this time and again. Sure, gaslighting by 'experts' doesn't help, but, hey, whatever happened to 'do your own research'?

LOL. I was told that I wasn't qualified to do my own research! ;-)

You mean: 'reading', right?

It's made me laugh for years the way people save up all year for their summer holidays, then they book and go ~ yay! Then they complain because it's too hot. Hang on. Wait a minute. I thought that was why you booked to go to a sunny Mediterranean country for your summer holiday. What am I missing?

Context incl., possibly, the notion that more people die of cold than of heat.

Also, most ancients were o.k., even though it was warmer back then (without rising anthropogenic CO2, though) and wore tunics and the like. Strange, eh?

The cancellations may be a result of one type of propaganda, but mass tourism is a result of another type of propaganda. The one thing I actually liked about the lockdowns (and mind you, lockdowns were horrible in almost every way) was that tourism collapsed. It's a significant quality of life issue for the unfortunates who live in tourist-infested areas (as I do).

And obviously, humans can survive all sorts of things, but few people will actually *enjoy* 40C weather. Swimming will make it bearable, but in an actual city (Rome, Athens...), such temperatures are pretty darn unpleasant. And people actually *pay* for that sort of stuff. Sounds like brainwashing to me.

"But is it really necessary to stay at home even if the temperature in Europe exceeds 40 degrees centigrade?"

I remember well the summer of 2003 in Germany. There were temperatures like 42°C, warnings in the radio to not go outside unless absolutely necessary.

I was home from studying, to my parents' place. From around noon to early evening, I was chopping wood, in the sun (not much clothing), for a week or so. Felt great, lol.

Australians are looking at this European 'media heat panic' and just wondering what the hell is going on up there. We regularly have 40C+ all over the country, all summer...If European governments are actually upset about heat, they are welcome to ask us what we do when it is hot...I am really at a loss for words.

Oh, you know, too much heat makes people go bonkers…

Exactly... I'm always wondering: do tehy take people for *that* stupid, that they won't remember their vacations in sunny countries, or... talk to people who come from southern Europe... They want to "warn" us starting at 24°C, getting critical there...

This is great news! Our vacation will be far better with fewer tourists (and the dumbest ones too)!

During Covid when all the state parks were closed we enjoyed them all to ourselves as we simply jumped the gates. I hope more people here these idiotic warnings.

Meanwhile, last Thursday morning it was +6C. Possibly, I froze to death?

We had +8C. It was nice, although a bit rainy as of late.

I saw my breath last night and thought I was going to die. (Australian, though so...)

I've had breath like that before I quit smoking and drinking - rotten chompers.

Do you get snow at all regular like in Australia I have to ask?

Expand full comment

Yes, in elevated areas. There are ski fields.
