Can’t even trust “peer reviewed” any longer, as recent news holds many are now found to be fraudulent.

I'm not saying peer-review is perfect (far from it), but I would suggest that the smaller the field (and archaeology is very small), and the smaller commercial interests (there are virtually none), the more trustful these assessments are.

Your bigger point, though, still stands.

How fitting as tonight was the first frost night here. :)

Never forget, before american capitalists and european neo-fascists turned climate into a cult and a racket (L Ron Hubbard would be so envious were he still alive), the main scientific hypothesis on where we were temporally speaking on the pendulum between glacials and inter-glacials was (drum roll):

Entering a new Ice Age.

Surely, there are opportunities for grift and graft hyping "the ice is coming!" too?

What about 'winter is coming'?

Jokes aside, your point about the cult'ish envy is very well taken.

I tried reading the first book in the series - fell asleep within 50 pages. Tried watching the TV-series, was so bored after 1½ episode I gave up.

I'm completely perplex as to what people find entertaining or of any literary quality about GRR Martin's novels.

To me they outdid even Robert Jordan's 'Wheel of Time' in sheer monotony and lack of momentum.

Anyways, enjoy Czechia/Prague!
