Revenge of the Quislings: Norway, Nord Stream, and the Unbearable Media Silence up North
Actually, more than that, there's plenty of finger-pointing directed at Russia, which indicates: a bad conscience, complicity, and the utter dependence of Norway on the US
I’ve been holding up for a few days before I’ll do a brief write-up of the Norwegian perspective on the Nord Stream bombings. I wanted to see if there’d be something popping up in legacy media up North, in particular because, if Hersh’s account would be true, it would be a major embarrassment for ‘the establishment’. And an act of war against Germany. Talk about irony, eh?
Norway’s Media Assumes the Ostrich Pose
So far, there has been little-to-nothing in terms of media engagement with respect to Norway’s possible involvement in this entire sordid affair. Thank Heaven for Celia Farber whose initial take is quite something to behold:
Norway’s Intelligence Community Blames—Russia
To return to the topic at-hand, here’s what’s making rounds over here today, as reported by state broadcaster NRK (my translation and emphases). As a fun activity, see if you can spot the words Nord Stream in the piece…
PST: No Reason to be Less Concerned about Russia
PST [Politiets sikkerhetstjeneste] warns that Russia is using extensive methods to map, influence, and possibly destroy Norwegian interests.
In the threat assessments from the Norwegian Defence Intelligence Service and the Norwegian Police Security Service presented today, state intelligence actors are highlighted as the greatest threat.
‘The current security policy situation has an impact on the intelligence threat to Norway. And in particular the threat from Russia’, says PST chief Beate Gangås to NRK. [If in doubt, add ‘Russia! Russia! Russia!’]
Russia Finds New Methods
Russia has been waging a war of aggression against Ukraine for almost a year. Diplomatic and economic ties with the West have been severed, but the intelligence threat is still there.
‘There is no doubt that working conditions have been a little more difficult since the war broke out, because it has attracted more public attention’, says Gangås.
We have no reason to be less worried than we were a year ago. I think it will now be important to look at other ways Russia can use to obtain information.
[But…if the security outlook hasn’t changed from a year ago, what has changed? This is a logical non-sequitur]
Gangås says Russia is keen to acquire information, expertise, classified information, and information about critical infrastructure.
‘This is information that they can use in turn to target us’, Gangås says. [no shit; they may also use Google Maps to do so, by the way]
Relevant targets for Russian intelligence can be educational institutions, knowledge companies, and political actors. [seriously, I mean—the order is in the reverse]
‘There is also some activity that is not related to illegal acts. These include strategic acquisitions and influence operations. There will be a variety of methods used to influence our situation and target us’, says the head of PST.
Moderately High Threat Level
PST has today also published an updated assessment of the terrorist threat from political and religious extremists.
Today, the threat level is back at a moderate level after it was extraordinary this summer in the wake of the attack on the London pub in Oslo. [oh, so the threat level was higher after an act of domestic terrorism, but Russia! Russia! Russia! is the big problem; it’s all self-evident, eh?]
‘Then we had a heightened security situation after that. Now some of the things that were unresolved have been clarified. But when we say that the threat is moderate, we are also saying that there is a possibility that terrorist attacks will be attempted in Norway in 2023’, says Gangås. [don’t stop fearing venturing outside, peasant, just in case]
In PST language, this means that it is as likely as it is unlikely. [no shit analysis]
Earlier in February, the Oslo police refused to allow the Islamophobic group Sian to burn the Koran outside the Turkish embassy in Oslo.
The police had information that led them to conclude that they could not ensure the safety of the event.
‘We have said that Koran burning as such will be perceived by some as so provocative and offensive that they may be willing to resort to extreme methods to respond to it’, says Gangås.
Bottom Lines
The intelligence chief and her willing collaborators in legacy media are gaslighting you, in case this needs to be stated bluntly.
That threat assessment the intelligence chief is about terrorism, it is linked in the above piece, and it doesn’t contain a single reference to Russia.
What they mean is the ‘National Threat Assessment for 2022’, which highlights both ‘Russian and Chinese services’ as ‘pos[ing] the greatest threats to Norway’ (p. 4, 6-13).
Now, the words ‘China’ or ‘Chinese’ didn’t make it into NRK’s above-cited piece. I (almost) ‘wonder’ why.
In addition, this is a retroactive threat assessment about Norway in 2022. It’s more in line with re-writing the sad history of the conflict in the Donbas since 2014.
Hence, there seems to be at least some method (memory-holing, specifically) to this madness.
Germany, Castrated Nation without History
Speaking of insanity, Norway’s not alone in this madness, as there’s also a virtual media blackout on Hersh’s coverage in Germany.
In a sane world, if he had any sense of self-respect, the German Chancellor would have called the Norwegian ambassador to talk to him about this allegation. This has happened over much less drastic insults and issues.
Not so in today’s Germany. Talk about lack of self-respect, sovereign standing, and the like all you wish, dear Germany, but actions speak much, much louder than words.
Its up to me to type something in your comment section glaringly obvious of Norwegian fuel extraction businesses benefitting from at least stifling flows from Russia to increase prices. The flows of money into Norway used to pay this particular for sale hierarchal system, the more money the more will jump on to support and defend the arrangement.
Do I think the Norwegian hierarchy had a hand in blowing up this pipe before or after reading an article about it? Hell yeah.
