On the Eve of the Allied Annihilation of Dresden, the Gov't Removes Agit-Prop Masquerading as Memorial

All of this is highly political and it shows, once more, that Germany is a castrated nation--exactly as Mr. Putin also said repeatedly.

It’s this time of the year, once again, to commemorate the dead of one of WW2’s most horrible single events: the annihilation of Dresden on 13-14 Feb. 1945.

There are long entries in the de facto official Wikipedia—see here for the English version—but I recommend looking at the German version, too, for it includes this picture showing mountains of killed people on Altmarkt square after the attack:

Since we’re on the subject, let’s not gloss over the fact that the Russian (!) version of the Wikipedia entry in question does show the above image—the English version doesn’t.

Oh, lest we forget—here’s what Mr. Putin said, among other things, on 30 Sept. 2022:

Recall that during WWII the United States and Britain reduced Dresden, Hamburg, Cologne and many other German cities to rubble, without the least military necessity. It was done ostentatiously and, to repeat, without any military necessity. They had only one goal, as with the nuclear bombing of Japanese cities: to intimidate our country and the rest of the world.

Yes, the English Wikipedia entry includes a separate section on its ‘justification’, with the main take-away being ‘an immoral act, but not a war crime’ (why, I dunno), but here’s what it says that

…ever since the deliberate mass bombing of civilians in the second world war, and as a direct response to it, the international community has outlawed the practice. It first tried to do so in the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949, but the UK and the US would not agree, since to do so would have been an admission of guilt for their systematic ‘area bombing’ of German and Japanese civilians.

Oh, look, Mr. Putin’s account of this depravity is closer to the truth than whatever the USUK govts have been saying since 1945.

Apart from this notion, we note the official death toll determined by a historians’ commission about two decades ago is around 25,000 people. There’s also Claudia Jerzak’s long essay on the website of the Federal Agency for Civic Education (Bundeszentrale für Politische Bildung), which discusses the ‘mythical’ and ‘memory’-related notions, incl. the strong tendencies to ‘take-over’ by Neonazis the narrative of the destruction of Dresden.

The ‘memorial’ has since re-appeared elsewhere, it is worth noting that the subject itself is highly politicised in Germany, with ‘Greens’ and other ‘leftists’ long calling for the ending of the commemoration.

Needless to say, these charades are a boon for the Alternative for Germany and other, more unsavoury factions to AfD’s right.

Olaf Scholz won’t make it to the event, proving once more that Germany is both a castrated nation and utterly without leaders. ‘Even’ official Japan commemorates Hiroshima and Nagasaki each year.
