C’mon, let’s do this, dear readers!
Having never been to Australia (or New Zealand, for that matter), here’s an homage to “Down Under”:
Apart from clichés, there’s also the next one (which I’ll include because my kids love the “Back to the Outback” movie), oh, plus it’s quite…educational, too!
Sydney in the 1950s
Here’s a view of Sydney Harbour prior to 1959 (which is when construction of the Opera commenced):
One of the chapters in my book will quite likely be about the “lost art of writing postcards”, hence the infrequent posting of the reverse, just like this one:
This one I included because it, too, shows a view of Sydney prior to 1959:
And its reverse was type-written (and this isn’t the only picture postcard whose reverse looks like this):
Finally, Tasmania
Because I now have a new colleague who hails from that island (and I think no trip to “Down Under” could ever be complete without trying to locate a “Tasmanian Devil”).
More soon—enjoy these for now, if you will.
Made me smile reading (well deciphered might be a better word, my school German is rusty) the typed postcard and the ‘travel’ of their 2 new pets to ultimately join their 2 existing ones.
Made me reflect on the weird and wonderful life snippets I share on my postcards
And an aside on handwriting, I know Scandinavia are ahead on reversing digitalisation in schools (thankfully!).
This has also been doing the rounds lately with the US challenging the disappearance of handwriting/cursive and the consequences thereof. Hope?!?

When I was a kid we sang a song in school about a bird in Australia. Kukkaburra (sp?) I think. Wild and wonderful animals there
