Finally, let’s meet “the Kenyans” in the picture postcards, shall we?
Please find the earlier two instalments here:
I hope you’ll enjoy these images as much as I do!
Sadly, there is not much more that’s legible on the backside other than the date (2 April 1941); interestingly, the post stamp reads “Vienna”, strangely enough. Shown are “two Masai girls” (and their donkey).
These two Ankole Women are found on a postcard sent to Munich, Germany, in 1960.
A “Beach Scene, East Africa”, is shown on the below picture postcard; sadly, there’s no visible date, but it’s in colour and clearly shows the difference of manufacturing. Personally, I think the palm-climbing postcard is from the 1970s.
Finally, here’s a nice example from 1984, showing two “Turkana Girls”, a motive that was part and parcel of the “Tribes of Kenya” picture postcard series:
Thus concludes our foray into East Africa for the time being, and you may get all excited about the armchair travels we’ll do next.
The weight off those necklaces must be felt by the women.
They’ve all been very nice. Thank you
Again-the necklaces remind me of a scene in Hatari Lol
