Is the US military actively engaging Russian forces in Ukraine?
Check out this piece in 'The Drive' and have your say!
I just so happened to see a piece referenced on my LinkedIn feed (for reasons unknown to me). Entitled, ‘Ukraine Situation Report: Heavy Fighting As Battle For Vuhledar Rages’, by Stetson Payne, it went live on The Drive two days ago on 28 Jan. 2023.
The piece, while full with the expectable ramblings, was accompanied—introduced—by the below image by Anatolii Stepanoc/AFP, via Getty Images:
Curiously enough, the soldier discarding an empty shell casing is wearing a Ukrainian uniform—but his shoulder patch sports a very much legible word (‘Airborne’) and the unit insignia of the 173rd Airborne Brigade (Sky Soldiers).
According to its website, the 173rd Airborne Brigade ‘is the U.S. Army’s Contingency Response Force in Europe, providing rapid forces to the United States European, Africa and Central Commands areas of responsibilities.’
Please tell me that this isn’t what it looks like.
I mean, some of the commenters in ‘my’ LinkedIn feed suggested this came about via some camaraderie, i.e., mingling of US and Ukrainian soldiers exchanging shoulder patches.
Speaking of ‘my’ LinkedIn feed, in the less than 5 minutes it took me to type and (almost) post this one, the site reloaded without me doing anything and that particular feed entry was replaced.
Any other thoughts, dear readers?
Another point: wearing false insignia as a soldier during war is punishable by summary execution if I remember the Convention correctly.
The reason why such is treated so harshly should be obvious.
I hope not.....
I would hope that no one in the USG or military would be stupid enough to believe that it’s a good idea to send US advisers into this mess. The stakes are just too high, but you never know what the morons currently running things in DC will do......
