Footnote: Ethnicity-Affirming Name Change
Normalising mental illness, check out the hottest new thing in int'l diplomacy, courtesy of Ukraine's Ambassador to Vienna, Austria
I never knew that Soviet army group denominations—such as the ‘Ukrainian Fronts’—were ethnically determined.
Let’s leave aside the ludicrously stupid notion of such crude ex post ‘nationalism’ vs. the brutalising realities of the ‘New Soviet Man’, which was an early, if under-considered, experiment in social (re)constructivism very much at odds with reality not unlike today’s gender+ moment.
As to the historical revisionism at-work in the above bird dropping (source), let’s also remember the following facts about the 2nd and 3rd Ukrainian Fronts (courtesy of the Ministry of Truth™):
And here’s the comparable information for the other army group:
Bottom Lines
If it weren’t for that ethnicity-affirming name change, Vienna would have been ‘liberated from Nazi Germany’ by the Steppe and Southwestern Fronts.
I suppose that would, technically, entitle Ghengis Khan to claim the mantle of liberator.
As an aside, let’s not forget that it was the Stavka, i.e., the Soviet General Staff (which, in its present-day Russian incarnation, still exists, by the way) that ‘created’ these two ‘Ukrainian’ army groups.
What an apt, if ludicrously, absurd comment, Mr. Ambassador.
If you’d be in my history class, that’s a resounding ‘F’.
I confess to still being taken aback by the increasingly blatant Orwellian revisionism.
Liberated is one way to put it.
Woke-ipedia's editors are getting sloppy. While they highlight the "ukrainian front"-bit, they've forgotten to edit out this:
"A large number of lootings and cases of rape took place in a several-week long violence that has been compared to the worst aspects of the Thirty Years War."
Committed by said "ukrainian front" against civilians. Perhaps Vasel Khymynets would be intrested in commenting on that, if some journo would dare mention it.
