Welcome, dear reader, to my brand-new Substack!
This is Die Fackel 2.0, a newsletter featuring contemporary and historical commentary, as well as the occasional thought experiment.
This is my primary outlet for issues related to contemporary events, their perceived importance, and on their historical context. Every now and then, I will also post my musings on the absurdities of (post-) modern life.
I will try to stick to my inspiration’s initial publication scheme (three times a month), but I would like to invite everyone who may find my musings interesting to sign up for free emails.
Content will be free, with all illustrations I will use being in the public domain.
Finally, speaking about the two main inspirations (motivations): the title of my Substack (Die Fackel 2.0) harks back to publicist and critic Karl Kraus (bio via Wikipedia). The title of my introductory posts relates to Giuseppe Verdi’s masterpiece Nabucco, esp. the ‘Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves’ (2011, courtesy of Youtube), a particularly important theme these days.
I will cover both aspects in more detail in a follow-up post (Va pensiero, pt. 2).
